Short: All-formats sound converter rel 3.1 (pl9)
SOX, or the Sound Exchange, is a tool for converting between sampled
audio formats. Written for Unix, bit now available for DOS, VMS,
and Amiga as well, it handles most formats native to these and other
platforms. Supported formats include:
- IFF-8SVX
- AIFF
- RIFF-WAVE (.wav)
- Creative Voice File (.voc)
- Sun audio (.au)
- NeXT audio (.snd)
- Mac audio
- raw audio in 8/16/32 bits; signed, unsigned, or ulaw
- Turtle Beach .smp
- some others
SOX is also capable of performing several effects on sound files,
including:
- rate change (resample)
- channel mixdown
- echo
- vibrato
- low-, band-, and high-pass filter
- reverse
New to pl9 (Amiga 3.1) are:
- fixen to WAVE handler, allowing optional RIFF properties
- high-pass filter
- miscellaneous other fixen
This archive includes four executable binaries for Amigas with any
combination of 68000/680[234]0 processors and no/6888[12] FPU. Also
included are ASCII conversions of the manuals and an AmigaGuide manual
for the program SOX itself. As an Amiga bonus you get many shell
scripts and/or aliases for performing specific types of conversions
without the hassle.
SOX is copyright 1990-1992 by Lance Norskog and Sundry Contributors,
but is freely distributable in both source and binary form. See
